I recently bought a 60gig external hd for my mom's laptop (win2k), and I need a cheap, easy, and ideally free program/system that can do the following...
my goal is to EITHER take an image snapshort OR back up all the files and reg settings (i.e it doesnt have to be an image, but that would probably be the easiest way) and back them up using a rotating system of removing the oldest backup. That is, she has a 10gig or so drive, so figure I can safely allow for 5 backup sets; after the first 5, the 6th replaces #1, and so on. This needs to be as close to one-touch as possible, as my mother isnt too great at the copying, pasting, cutting, etc thing. also, this WONT be nightly/automatic.
Currently, her system has plenty of free space, so she can backup to the HD then copy/replace that to the external.
So, for starters, figure I need a backup program that can be set to run as one-touch (one click is fine too 🙂) and will automatically name the backup with either an incremental numbering system or that day's date. I guess I could go by "date created", but figure filename would be easier when dealing with a batch.
assuming I am capable of writing the batch file (err, hope so-if not that'll be the next question), can someone please suggest backup software that can run to preset settings and naming conventions with a single click. win2k...
thanks.
