I've got a 939 a643000. I'm going to build a C2D based computer later in the year, as i'll need a 2nd computer. I'm also planning to get vista ultimate for that one (that is for sure; no need to debate that purchase here). I'd like to upgrade the 939 computer so it'll last for a number of years as 2nd computer. I was planning on getting a 4400x2 toledo for about $190, then I see this deal- get an fx-60 and vista ultimate for $460. Effectively, i'm paying about an extra $70 for the fx-60 instead of getting the 4400x2.

Is it worth the extra $70?

Vista Home Premium OEM is what, $200? What about Ultimate do you need? Full Drive encryption? lol.

Opty 165 is about $150.

That's $350. Seems to me you're wasting about a hundred bucks. It's easy to find an Opty that will do 2.6.

heck yeah. $70 for vista ultimate is damn cheap (better be 32 bit cause the 64bit is very strict with drivers/apps/games).

go for it! unlocked multipliers ftw!

Vista = Major DRM! Stay with Vista, but thats my opinion. that being said, if you are going to overclock go with the X2 4400 which can get very close to the FX 60 if not faster. However even if you are not going to overclock go with the X2 4400. its a damn good chip that will last you years. also if you want this computer to last years give it 2 gigs of ram. and you will be happy. you may already have 2 gigs but you never listed your specs so we don't know. either way have fun!

If it's going to be a second computer why bother to upgrade it? I wouldn't use a package deal of Vista and any cpu to justify the cpu purchase but then again I am in no hurry to use Vista. 😛
