I think the issue with some of these situations is the people lie.

The guy coming into Canada probably should have said he totally forgot his gun was in the car and offer to have it confiscated or be allowed to turn around. If the guy was straight up about it, depending on the border agent (some are just assholes and it does not matter how you approach it) he could potentially have been let off easy. Though best bet is doing a U turn before even getting to the border. Heck I'd even call for a (local) police escort if it's not possible to do a U turn (ex: if it's a divided highway). You are better off getting in trouble in your own country than another country.

As for Mexico, I would avoid that place at all cost no matter what the situation is. With the drug cartels and stuff if you run into the wrong person they'll slice your head off and hang it off a bridge and feed the rest of the body to their dogs. The only places in Mexico that are safe are the vacation resorts.

"Don't mess with Texas", and "fuck Canada", but when a Murrican citizen is involved? Holee fucking shit, call NRA!

You are such a hypocritical retard, it's not even funny anymore.

One, we want our government to be politically aggressive on a US Citizen's behalf, if the "crime" they commit is a civil right domestically.

Two, the danger to a US citizen in Mexican jails would easily violate the 8th amendment in multiple ways, including being held without bail.

Three, the spirit of the "no firearms" laws in Mexico were not violated. More than one American has accidentally done the same thing. Believe it or not, kids can make boneheaded mistakes, that yes they should pay for, but proportionally. There was no evidence he was trying to use the firearms or sell them.

Four, he is a US service member, who our government should absolutely make it a top priority to get transferred to US custody. Using our military as political pawns has to be strongly discouraged.

Five, it is political, as mentioned. Mexico has a massive inferiority complex, and takes any chance it has to show the United States that "we aren't the boss of them" like children. The local police and officials are corrupt, and probably sold his firearms already.

Eleventeen, after our government facilitated actual illegal firearms sales to Mexican drug cartels, some of which ended up killing countless Mexican citizens, and a US federal agent, you would think they would try to show some understanding of mistakes.

I think most americans see their guns like most people see cell phones. Just something you always have with you. So I can almost see how these mistakes happen. I think borders need to be slightly more understanding, and simply confiscate them. They could be given some kind of ticket where they can reclaim it on their way back, but it would cost them a fee, like 100 bucks or something. You know the law system is fucked up when an honest mistake can land you in jail.

That's a cool story and all, but has nothing to do with Connor being a dumbshit, which was the point of my post.

My stance on this issue is that it's a huge political clustefuck, and, as a rule, I don't get involved in political BS. I don't care about all the he said she said or how well the road was marked. The bottom line is that they're being a dick to our guy, which is absolutely no different than what we've done recently. We as a nation certainly seem to be getting what we deserve, even if the individual in question may or may not be. I don't care, I'll let the politicians and magistrates sort it out.

I'd rather have that guy get raped in jail a few times to be completely honest.

Hired killers deserve every bit of karma they get.

I wonder what Fox had to say about Texas executing a Mexican national earlier this year without allowing him assistance from the Mexican consulate. Think Fox felt Mexico should close the border, stop trade, etc.? We'd be a lot better off is so many Americans didn't get their news from companies that pander to their base in a quest for ratings.

are you really comparing a shitbag illegal who killed a cop to a decorated Marine who made a mistake? Good God you are dumb.

Not going to lie. I hate soldiers. My favourite pastime growing up was beating the shit out of them at my local bar.

I don't think so. I know a bunch of folk who own guns. NONE of them carry it all unless we are going shooting. hell they don't carry period.

At most i have seen them keep small rifle when working in the fields.

to put all his weapons into a vehicle "just because" seems fishy to me.

Well, except in California where it is illegal to drive around with loaded weapons in your car or on your person. Fact is, he was breaking CA law before he even crossed over into Mexico.

And I have no idea how someone could accidentally cross into Mexico at the San Ysidro border crossing. There are literally signs for miles before you get to the border stating that you are heading toward the US/Mexico Border and it is one of the busiest border crossings in the world. :whiste:

just because he's a marine doesn't mean he can violate laws... but it sucks that he's not being treated well and they should be doing something to get that idiot back

I wonder what would happen if a Mexican citizen rolled into the USA with 3 guns...

This exactly, or any country for that matter. Nothing against this guy but he would of fared much worse in most countries.

Five, it is political, as mentioned. Mexico has a massive inferiority complex, and takes any chance it has to show the United States that "we aren't the boss of them" like children. The local police and officials are corrupt, and probably sold his firearms already.

What about Americans´ superiority complex? You can´t just go to another country and break laws. If you don´t think a specific country´s laws are fair then don´t go there.
