please share you knowledge on website necessities for a lost soul

recently i have been playing around with html,javascript,css etc...
i am trying to build a unique website for quick answers to many hardware/software facts,fixes etc...
i am using tripod,from lycos but i don't want banners/ads.also i am improving in my html skills but am still slow at it,and i am wondering what is available that might be faster / better in generating a website with dropdown menus,seperate pages, and still be compatable with all or most browsers.

but i don't want banners/ads n my site at this point in time.so i am also looking into webhosts,which is becoming confusing rather quickly.
mysql perl php server side includes ssh augh

then there is bandwidth options ...how do i figure out how much i need?

examples of what i want it for:
example1
example2
example3
example4
example5

as you can see they are simple pages.

what would you recommend for such a site?

can the pages be imitated in php etc...
