Please save my computer from my baseball bat!

I'm currently trying to to run a small lan with 2-3 computers but something always goes wrong...

Computer 1: Win2k
Computer 2: WinXP

Both are connected via a netgear switch. The network was working perfectly until a week ago when both computers could not find each other on the network.
This happened by itself...I didn't change any settings.

Does anyone have any ideas why the #@$! this is happening?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE: I have isolated the problem to either the switch or the cables I'm using. I tried using a crossover cable and the network started working.

This really sucks because I had another switch a few years ago with the same problem...I think it was Sohoware.

what kind of netgear switch do u have..

i might have the same one.. and similar problems are happening with me with netgear

Have you checked all your cables? And do you have another computer that you can throw on there to see if either machine can see it. Might help decide if your switch has gone wonkers.

What's your address, i'm from CHIPS (Computer Harm Inter-Prevention Society) and i need to come take those computers and give them a safe home away from any harm, where they will be free to run Distributed Computing for the rest of their lives 🙂

😉

Do you have any more straight through cables you can try, or a friend with a hub/switch to test out your cables? that would be the first thing i would try....or maybe a local computer shop would check the cables for you?

Confused
