I am building a desktop for internet, gaming, and blue-ray watching. I intend to game at 1680x1050. I am thinking of the following parts and have a budget of $1500 including monitor.

Could you please advise if this combination of parts makes sense, or if there are any conflicts I didn't catch? Also, the processor says it comes with a heatsink and fan - do I need one anyways? And should I get additional fans for the case? Thanks.

Also, this processor is 64bit compatible. Should I get 64B windows, or do applications work better with 32B?

Looks like you tried to follow the sticky, but forgot to include whether you intend to overclock or not. Based on your question about using a heatsink/fan on the cpu, I'm guessing that is a no. Good thing the i5-750 turbo has you covered there.

Yes, you DO need a heatsink and fan on your CPU. You do not need any additional case fans. I have an older version of this Gigabyte Triton case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811233016 which is pretty much the same, but has a 120mm fan in the front and the bottom 3 hard drive slots are part of a removable cage which I took out. My airflow is more than adequate, and yours should be good enough unless you have really high ambient temperatures where you keep it AND you force an overclock.

I wouldn't trust that KB/mouse combo while doing ranked gaming. I'd suggest sticking to a wired keyboard and mouse unless you have a reason better than not liking cables across your desk. If you have to go with a wireless setup, at least get a logitech set.

I think you can probably get a higher resolution monitor for that price, and it would make better use of a 5850. Look in the Video and Graphics thread for that, I'm getting lazy the longer I type this.

Okay, I couldn't help myself but look quick. Just get this one unless you want to connect other devices. And ignore anybody silly who thinks there's something wrong with 1080p computer monitors.

Monitor & TV with lots more inputs.

You should load the 64 bit version of Windows 7. I believe your license key should work fine for both 32 and 64 bit versions if you can just get the 64 bit disc.

Happy hunting,

Jeff

I personally like the HAF 922. If you can fine it at a good price, its a little extra money for a lot more case.

It goes on sale from time to time on Newegg. I have seen it as low as $79.99 and with free shipping.

Install 64bit W7.

Drop the wireless keyboard/mouse. Spend $60 on a decent wired mouse/keyboard. You will be much happier.

If you are going to be watching BR then you might as well get a larger screen at 1080p. Something like these maybe? You won't find a IPS panel like that in your price range but maybe one of these larger TN panels would be acceptable?

Nah

Agreed. I have an MX Duo (has the old MX700), and after all these years, it's still great for gaming.

You can save $50 if you order the i5-750 from Microcenter. If you don't overclock the CPU, you don't need a new heatsink. I just did a build with 750 and load temps were 50*C using a CM Scout case.
