Alright guys, this is my last thread. I'll be ordering within a day (or two)

If you've been reading my previous threads, this is my first official build.

Since this is my first build, I need to be assured that when I put everything together, it will all be compatible and turn on.

Here are the specs:

Intel Core i7 920
6GB DDR3 triple channel
NVIDIA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked
(2) 1 TB HDD's
Coolermaster Cosmos S
Creative SoundBlaster X-FI titanium
Corsair 1000 w PSU
Gigabyte GA-EX58 Mobo
Vista 64 bit
Blu Ray reader

What do you think? I've decided not to get the 4870X2, only because I don't think I need all that power right now. I like Nvidia and eVGA - great service. The GTX 260 is still an incredible card. I can always add another, upgrade, ect.

Can anyone help me find a CPu cooler that is compatible with socket 1366? i7?

I can't find any, there seems to be only one on newegg with horrible reviews.

I feel pretty confident about everything. The only thing I'm a little weary about is the case. I love the look of the Cosmos S. I know the Antec 1200 is probably the best bet, I just don't like the way it looks. I want this to look good. Is the antec 1200 worth getting over the Cosmos S?

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: rating.

Have you considered a case by Lian-Li or the Antec P182 ?

thanks! is everything 100% compatible?

lian-li seem expensive, and I have yet to look at the p182. thanks!

i'd prefer a full ATX case

That 1000W PSU is a good one, but it's way more than you need for a single GPU system.

I would go with the onboard sound on the motherboard instead of the X-fi. Gigabyte has good onboard sound system for that board, plus save yourself a few bucks.

First, the core i7 should come with a HSF stock that is serviceable, but if you intend on getting a little more involved and oc it these guys get HOT, thermalright sells a base plate that makes its various heatsinks compatible with this socket for around 10 bucks (on top of as much as you wanna drop on the heatsink itself up to 80 bucks...)

Second, the Asus P6T is more heavily reviewed and is coming up very positive. Considering it is virtually the same price, it is worth considering unless you really are planning on supplementing your rig with TWO more of the 260s. You did pick one of the only available triple sli boards though if you are going to that extreme.

Third, I would keep the X-Fi in the build even if you have to have Alchemy to make it do all of its magic for games. I, like many, will give up my dedicated sound board when the pry it from my cold, dead hands. It just sounds better than other options and the Titanium has the ability to output surround to a receiver if you so desire. For even more sound quality there is also a PCI variant of the X-Fi by Azunetech that has better DACs.

4th, again unless you are hitting triple SLI time, I really have gotten good service out of the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 that does support just about any flavor of SLI or Crossfire with 2 physical cards. It's at 99 bucks much of the time these days and has a single 12V rail, which I prefer over multi 12V rail models.

As far as compatibility, you should have no issues with the above components under Vista 64. The only problems you may run into is legacy external peripherals (I have only really had trouble with outboard recording hardware for audio production, but even that has really more or less resolved as companies get into the new MS driver model).
