It's Combined Federal Campaign time for my agency, and I have a few local charities in mind that I usually donate to, but since I've gotten a raise this year, I'm planning to donate to at least one national charity as well. Unfortunately, the CFC catalog has several hundred charities, and I know as soon as I select one, I'll remember another that I would have like to have contributed to. :) Please recommend some, and I'll go through my CFC catalog to see if they are eligible for my donation.

And I'd appreciate it if some people could keep the "donate it to my computer/gf/getting-a-life fund" replies to themselves...believe it or not, I'm making a serious post! :D

I'm turning in my form tomorrow morning, so this evening is the deadline for suggestions! :)

Thank you.

I already contribute to the local United Way. March of Dimes is now on my list. :) Thanks for the suggestions.

How about the RBNNCF? IE - "Ryan Bloedow Needs a New Car" Foundation - at least you know it'll be going to a good cause! ;)

many CFC charities are scams in my book, but then i am pretty jaded about charities

i think your local church of choice would be a better place to give your cash to

but if you have to pick something from the CFC , i recommend The ALS Association (ALSA)

because my father-in-law died from Lou Gehrig's disease twelve years ago :(

I agree that some of the charities listed are more than questionable. That is one of the reasons I made this post.

Most of my local churches are affiliated with private schools, so (IMO) they are receiving more than enough money from the outrageous tuitions they charge. Not to mention all the fairs, fundraisers, etc. Plus, I've already decided on several local charities that I'd prefer to give to based on experience with their actions.

I will definitely put the ALSA on my list, thank you, and my condolences on the loss of your father in law. :(

Aside from the underfunded and underappreciated Astaroth33 Foundation, I agree that both the Make-A-Wish Foundation and ALSA would be excellent choices.

Of the major charities The Salvation Army gets the highest percentage of the donated dollar to the intended cause.
