Please recommend "quiet"

I currently have the Golden Gate 40 Heatsink/fan on a AMD XP 1600 CPU. It's a great cooler; I generally run 36-39 ºC. Unfortunately, the fan is extremely (or at least to me) loud! I want to replace the fan only if possible. Please recommend a fan that is the quietest and will give me sufficient cooling. I won't be overclocking.

I don't mind another heatsink + fan option if it isn't too expensive (under $50); otherwise I would like to just replace the fan.

Please help.

Thanks,
Dhanu...

I've got a Golden Gate with a 24 cfm/34 dba fan, it cools quite well but not quite as quiet as you would like. I would think you could put on an even slower fan than that and it'd be fine. But if you have the money I would splurge for the Alpha 8045 + panaflo L1a. You can get the alpha here for $30 and you can find a panaflo for $3. Don't have a link for that though. Hope that helps.

I would like the QUIETEST possible, yet at least decent fan.

Thanks,

Yup, the Panaflo sounds like the ticket. 21db @ 24 cfm. Try Panaflo for the info and search google for Panaflo. You should get a bunch of hits. Or try bgmicro.com. The fans are $2.50 for each or $1.99 ea. for 10. Compare this with a Pabst that are $20-$30 each if you can find them.

Definitely go for the Alpha 8045 / Panaflo combo. It was the best thing I have done for my computer. You can get Panaflos for $2.95 here, or you can go to 2cooltek to get the Alpha bundled with a Panaflo for $45, with the Panaflo wires already crimped to a 4-pin connector. There is one catch with the $2.95 Panaflo's... you have to have a minimum of a $15 order. But the site has a lot of useful things like LEDs, etc., so this might not be a problem for you.

Edit: I have since noticed cheaper Panaflos at places like bgmicro, where they are only $2.49. I have never bought from them so I don't know if there is any minimum order amount.

panaflo is definetly the way

however, look around on plycon and 2cool for other possibly generic fans and check their readout for dbA. You never know what you might find :D
