I have a p4 2.4ghz processor w/my asus p4p800 motherboard

i have 1gb of pc3200 ram in it and an ati 9600pro

I was thinking of upgrading my system -- do u guys think a 3.0c northwood is better?

Or an AMD mobo/processor combo is the way to go?

Remember, I don't game that much. I do video editing and DVD encoding/ripping mostly for business.

A little off topic - do u think that an SATA drive will increase the speed of my video editing and dvd encoding/ripping?

Thanks!

Look at the Socket 939 Athlon64

as far as Drives, get some SATA 74gig Raptors. As fast as they get without going to SCSI

rufio, the benchmarks which I last saw suggest application optimization for a specific CPU architecture (eg SeSE2/3) is important and is the reason why Intel/AMD perform better in some rendering/encoding apps. Check out the benchmarks and see if the apps you are using is better on AMD or Intel.

On the internet... do some web googling and see what you can come up with.

Pentium's are typically better at media encoding, but do check the benchmarks. It's possible you may need a $1000 pentium to beat a $700 Athlon 64. (but really do some research first)
