Please Recommend Me Programs for my PC

Hi,

My dad just bought Kaspersky PURE 3.0 Total Security for my fairly new PC. I'm currently in a pickle with my laptop and I'd like not to have my working PC get sick too, so just imagine this new PC just came out of the box--what applications (for maintenance and health) would you download that will coincide with Kaspersky?

Thank you very much. ^_^

So you already have Kaspersky, the main thing you want to add is safe browsing and download habits to keep it from getting viruses. Even the best AV will miss the latest malware and viruses that come out, so most of it lies in your hands.

And along the same lines as the about, don't download any 'system cleaners' or 'speed boost' apps that you find on the internet. Almost all of those are junk, and have malware in them.

Windows 7 and 8 will defragment automatically and alert you to updates as needed, so you don't need to worry about that.

Unless you have a specific issue you are worried about, that's about all there is to it.

Malwarebytes Anti Malware is a free anti malware removal program that targets the kinds of malware most anti virus suites don't try to target. I highly recommend it. It has fantastic ratings and reviews everywhere you go. It is not an ACTIVE protection suite, meaning that it does not constantly run in the background, only when you run it.

Spybot Search and Destroy is a great preventative program that uses prevention methods to stop spyware and adware from getting in your computer and changing settings. It also has a scan and removal tool for known spyware threats and tracking cookies.

Between your antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Malwarebytes Anti Malware you should have pretty much everything you need to stay malware and virus free so long as you maintain smart browsing and downloading habits.

If you're really interested in keeping your PC protected and understanding what an an on-access (antivirus suite) and on-demand (Malwarebytes Anti Malware) do read this very helpful article: http://lifehacker.com/the-difference-between-antivirus-and-anti-malware-and-1176942277

If you're interested in knowing how your Kaspersky Antivirus stacks up against the competition (right now it is the top rated paid antivirus) you can view this article here: http://lifehacker.com/5865356/the-best-antivirus-app-for-windows That article is a little more subjective than the previous one so take everything with a grain of salt. However, they do use an independent and fact-based website to get protection benchmarks which you can find here (copy paste the link because hyperlinking it isn't working properly):

CCleaner from Piriform.com is an excellent maintenance program that is very conservative in its settings.

I'd just use the "cleaner" portion of it, rather than the "registry" portion.

Some people cannot keep their hands off the registry. If you are one of those people, CCleaner is much less likely to eventually cause problems than other "registry cleaning and optimization" programs.

But you'd likely never notice the difference with the registry portion of it, so I'd just bypass it entirely.

If you don't want to use CCleaner, then at least use Windows built-in "Disk Cleanup" periodically. Maybe once a month.
