Please recommend me a good LCD monitor

Can anyone find me the best LCD monitor, considering:

1) I play games;
2) I prefer a not so huge screen. 17" is fine, but I could get a 20" if I had no choice;
3) Widescreen is a big plus;
4) Best image quality possible, of course.

I've been using a Mac Powerbook and a HP notebook lately, and they both have crystal-clear images and vibrant colors. Yet, the stand alone LCD monitors I saw in store displays have messed up washed images, and not so precise colors. Is there any LCD for my desktop PC that has this same quality found in most notebooks today? What models should I check out?
