Hi there. I could use a little advice.

I am in the process of building a new Conroe computer. Most of the parts are here and ready to be assembled but I do need a new case and power supply.
So tomorrow I think I will run down to the pc shop and grab a new case and power supply. The question is what to get?

The system specs of this computer will be.

Conroe E6600
ASUS P5B Deluxe
Crucial 2 GIG
7600 GT (for now) 8800 GTX later)
ThermalTake Big Typhoon CPU cooler.

So I need a good case and PS for a upcoming 8800 GTX and one that can fit a Big Typhoon.

Can the Mid-Tower ATX cases fit a Big Typhoon? Or is the huge cases needed for these Big typhoons?

To be honest I am kind of new to this overclocking stuff and I have never installed anything like the Big Typhoon. My biggest concern is buying a case that will fit this huge CPU cooler.

So I guess I need atleast a 450 watt power supply for the 8800 GTX?

Can anyone recommend a good case and PS that is 450 watt or higher and will fit a Big Typhoon?

If at all possible I would prefer a mid tower but if it's necessary I would definitely go ahead and buy a large case.

I sure do appreciate the help. Thanks. :)

I have a p180. I have an 8800 gts. A gtx would fit but you would have to take out the top drive cage. P180 is a great case by antec. You need to make sure you get a power supply with over 40 amps on the 12v rail to be safe when running an oc'ed conroe and gtx otherwise it will blow. If I were you I would just get the gts. The gtses have come down in price termendously and offer a killer price to performance ratio now. I am of course assuming you are not runnign a monstruous monitor

I dont have a huge monitor yet but I will hopefully be getting one soon.

So which Power Supply would be good for an overclocked Conroe and a 8800 GTX?

Would a 500 Watt antec be good enough?

This one is plenty good and about half the price of that or the Seasonic equivalent: Enhance ENP-5150GH. eWiz.com carries it and usually has the best price, plus you can get a small discount by linking to it via Froogle or Pricewatch - try both to see which is better.

A case like this: R5601 should do you fine. The BT is only 5" tall so it will fit in most mid-tower cases but you may have to remove any side duct. This case has a telescoping duct in two parts so you may need to remove only part of it but the whole thing is easily removeable if necessary (just 4 screws). I reviewed a similar case here Rosewill R5604. These Rosewill cases are variants on the YeongYang YY-5601. Rosewill also carries the R6A series which are variants on the Antec SLK3000-B but look better to my eye - the 3000B looks similar to most Antec cases made since 2000. Unfortunately they aren't as good a buy as they have been - none are discounted now. If you don't mind the appearance, you can get the Antec 3000-B for about $50. shipped from provantage.com
. None of the other Rosewill cases are as sophisticated as the two series I specifically mentioned and the included PSUs range from middling quality to junk.

I just noticed that most of the Rosewill R6A models have free 3-day shipping! So they are competitive with the 3000-B from provantage!!

IAC, what you have to watch out for is lateral room. Your mobo will need to have the CPU socket located some in from the edge toward the PSU so the HSF won't impinge on the PSU space. The edge of the mobo is quite close to the PSU in both of these.

If you decide you want a big case, then take a look at the Thermaltake Eureka or the Silverstone SST-TJ05. The Armor is too riced for my taste.

Zepper, corsiar is made by seasonic??? Never knew... im so lost with PSU's. :\ I have a PCnC because it was recomended on all the forums i go on. And to be honest, its pretty dayam good. It made me want to buy there 1kw version for my QX. But if your budget is in that area, id say check out PCnC and Silverstone Zeus. Those were the 2 i was debating about, and seems there ranked amungst the best.

I VOTE FULL TOWER!!

I have in my armor

PCnC 750W PSU
2 D5 Liang Water Pumps.
120x2 radiator
120x1 radiator
2 opticals
2 raptors
1 seagate
and still left over room to drop in 1 more 5 1/4 bay or 5 HD's

:D thanks to the rear HD rack, your entire front bay is open for whatever you want to do with it. In my case its a mid/high performance watercooling setup.

The armor is just like the stacker in build. Only difference is rear mobo layout and psu layout. The armor PSU is sideways so it allows you to drop in 3 hd in its rack right next to it.

The CM Stacker is a nice case also, but your missing the rear HD rack. Also you can have 2 PSU's

If you can afford these last ones, there seriously the rolls royce's in PC cases:

Silverstone TJ-07 hands down the best case ive ever owned, not to mention the prettiest.

Mountain Mod UFO - i would like to own one... ummm... someday... not now... but yeah someday... its really really big thats why...

Lian Li V2000 - :\ get the silverstone tj-07 for a little bit more... it will pwn the lian li in build quality even.

Anyhow those are my personal recomendations on full tower cases... If the comp doesnt need to be moved very often, i dont see how a full sized case would be an issue. :p

more room = easy for cable to be managed, or more realestate for you to mess up on cable management.
