I am seeking a new LCD monitor to replace my 6+ year old Dell D1626HT 21" Trinitron CRT Monitor, which is ready to die as we speak. I have major real estate issues, so an LCD is a must.

While I wish I had time to play games on my computer, I use it mainly for general office tasks. However, my wife is very much into art projects and photography and so a monitor that that supports her passion is needed. I understand that a 19" monitor would give me the same screen size as I currently have with the CRT (what are the advantages to bigger?). Factors: Quality, color depth, response time, price, in that order.

I plan to replace my computer system next year. Current system significant specs: P4 2.53, 1G 1066 Rambus, ATI 9700 Pro.

Your suggestions greatly appreciated!

Buyer beware: 19 inch LCDs are limited to 1280x1024, like 17 inch LCDs. More physical area, equal application real estate. The 20+ inch LCD area, with 1600x1200 resolution, is where you probably want to look. I am very pleased with my Samsung 213T. Sure, as a hardcore amateur digital photographer, I'd be happier with the Eizo CG220 (larger gamut, slightly more resolution horizontally, smoother gradients, easier to calibrate, etc.), except for the ~US$6000 price tag (my 213T was ~$US650 before rebate). Some will also recommend the Dell 2001FP, which may be ok, but from what I saw of some new Dell 17" LCDs in a computer lab, I blindly chose the Samsung based on their reputation, and was not disappointed.
