Please recommend laptop to run adobe programs.

My friend is looking to buy a laptop to run adobe: photoshop, illustrator, and in-design programs, along with microsoft excell, word ect and quark xpres. What is the cheapest that will do the job and what will take her farther in the future before having to upgrade that is close to $1000 usd. Decision, AMD or Intel? In the future she may decide to do webpage design and possible some light video editing. What brands should we stay away from due to poor user friendliness, funcionality, bulkiness. Also is a firewire port benificial if she does not decide to do video editing? I would like to see at least a 15" screen.

P.S. She wants to have 512mb ram and its like pulling teeth to tell her we could upgrade one from 256.
