Please recommend AV (free???) for Vista Business

Interesting. Way over my head. I ran a VM once, I think, on a 64 bit machine to emulate a 32 bit machine so I could run a program. I abandoned it because it was too much trouble. Just ran it on a 32 bit machine instead. I hope I'm right about that.

Do you run all this stuff on a single machine?

Yeap, the server in my sig.

I'm using Panda AV free on an old XP system. Should work for Vista Business.
Was tough to find. 4 offers, none free of different levels. Hit the link for "already a customer" and there it offered you to sign in or create account. Once you create an account (a bunch of personal info, age, name, address, phone), you can download the free version, which I did. The install screen has 4 checkboxes for options and they default as selected:

Install Panda Safe Web protection against malicious websites.

Set Panda Safe Web as my default search provider (Powered by Yahoo)

Set Panda Safe Web as my default home page

Install Panda Smart Shopping to secure your online shopping

Do you have that stuff running? Should I just go with those?

I just uninstalled the old free version on my XP machine and downloaded and installed the new version - Panda Dome Free Version. Panda redirected me to this site where it started downloading PANDAFREEAV.exe. Is that the version you downloaded?

My answers to the above four questions were:

Install Panda Safe Web protection against malicious websites. > No. It can make your web experience safer but it normally slows down the page load.

Set Panda Safe Web as my default search provider (Powered by Yahoo) > No. I use google.

Set Panda Safe Web as my default home page >
No. I kept my existing home page (google)

Install Panda Smart Shopping to secure your online shopping >
No. I don't need it.

Thanks. The file I downloaded is PANDAFREEAV.exe 2,097KB

I saw elsewhere that it can slow down your machine, so won't install Panda Safe Web protection.

I too use Google and have it as my home page, generally. But in Opera I use Opera's home page which lets you set up icons for your favorite sites which I like. I think Opera still supports Vista, but not positive.

I'm just going to say "No" to those questions like you. Thanks!!!

Well, the installation of PANDAFREEAV.exe stalled at the last second and I had to kill the process. A window popped up saying the installation failed to complete successfully and I should click a big button and then start the installation process. This resulted in FREEAV.exe downloading, which is 62.1MB, which is happening right now. I'll launch that and hopefully a successful installation will follow.

I followed up but somehow the info was lost, so I'll reiterate what I said:

I launched FREEAV.exe and it asked if I wanted to Repair or Uninstall. I opted to Repair (WTH, if it failed I could uninstall, then install from scratch). The Repair completed after a while and I was asked to restart, which I did. That took a while but a subsequent restart was faster. I don't know how long it takes the machine to boot normally, I only use it once a week and don't pay attention. The machine is now running Panda Dome and it says the machine is protected.
