I plan on over-clocking the processor as far as it can go stably, ~3GHz+.

In addition to the parts bellow I will run 2-3 120mm fans, 2 IDE HDDs, and 2 optical drives.

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E4300

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit

I was thinking this Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W Power Supply

or if that is not good enough, this XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W

I have recently built a system for a friend with the latter PSU and it's working fine over-clocked with a E6300 @ 2.8GHz, SATA HDD, 2x1GB DDR2, optical drive, 4x 120mm fans.

Let me know if there are any better choices for ~$40-$60...

Thanks in advance.

The Xclio 500W should be more than enough. I'm thinking about getting one for my next build.

My friends rig with Xclio 500w:
E4300 @ 3.6ghz
2 GB ram (2x1)
8800GTS 320
2 x 320gb seagate 7200.10 raid0
1 x 300gb wd 7200 ide
1 x 16x dvdrw ide
1 x cd/dvd combo drive ide
Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard
4 fans

are these xclio still cwt?

i took the advice of the forum majority 3 years ago and got an xclio 450w that lasted maybe 2 years with very light loads. i had it in my rig but had some stability/clocking issues so i replaced it and gave it to a friend. he ran it for about a year before calling me with problems that turned out to be the xclio. i replaced it with an antec that jonnyg had abused for a review after 18 months of my 24/7 use (folding back then). that was 6 months ago and its still fine.

back then, people said the same about the xclio- can't beat them for the price. i think i'd rather get an enhance or sparkle unit in similar price range. maybe even some of those new seasonic made antecs altho i don't know the $$ of those i hear they're reasonable.

of course, maybe xclio improved their spec'd designs...

Well I dont know about long term reliability but this power supply seems like quality just by how it looks & feels.

yeah, just looked for a review at jonnyg's site, no-go. but forum posts indicate they're still made by cwt, which isn't a bad thing in itself, just depends on what xclio tells 'em to make.

FSP/Sparkle units are probably the best buy in PSU's, period. And you don't need anywhere near the power this unit will provide for the rig in question, either-

Total overkill in power supplies is currently very fashionable, and heavily exploited by cheapo makers. If the computer in question never draws more than 300w from the wall at 66% psu efficiency, then they can label crap units as "500Watts!" all day and never get called on it... Don't fall for it, don't waste your money on power you'll never use, either...
