I am interested in buying a new zero turn mower for mowing my 1 acre yard. I am pretty much interested in an entry level model under $3k, as I only have an acre to mow. My main concern is quality, I want it to last a long time.

I have been leaning towards either a Toro or Cub Cadet, but have had numerous people tell me they are crap? There are so many opinions on the different brands of residential mowers, it is almost impossible to get an unbiased recommendation.

I can't help you with that kind of choice. That's way more than I could ever convince myself to spend on a mower, but then I'm somewhat of a tight-ass. Just last week I bought a new, manual push-reel mower because I got tired of buying relatively inexpensive gas-powered mowers that seem to break on me after only two or three years of use. Of course, my yard is way smaller than yours. With a lawn your size, I could see why you would be looking for a nice, quality machine.

Why wouldn't the 1 acre lot be wooded or otherwise natural in the first place? I don't understand how a monoculture of crabgrass is appealing to anyone.
