please recommend a new video card

hello everyone,

i am kind of poor so all i can do at the moment is upgrade my video card. i'll do a full system upgrade later when i have more cash. here are my current system specs:

asus p4t-e
p4 1.6a overclocked to 2.1 ghz
1 gig rdram
80 gig maxtor
nec 16x dual-layer dvd burner
albatron geforce 4 ti-4200 128MB
antec 480w true power supply

most of my games run fine but i would like to play at higher resolutions. what video card would you recommend? thanks.
 
What resolution?

A used 9700 Pro or 9800 Pro would help some, but they are getting close to the end of their life if you want to run at 1024x768 or higher.

For an upgrade that offers a good speed boost for higher resolutions, and a card that you can move to your new system, you probably need to spend the $215 for a nvidia 6600GT (newegg.com, be careful not to buy the PCI-E / PCI-Express version!)

If you want 1280x1024 you might even want to get a plain 6800. For 1600x1200 you need a 6800GT.
