Please recommend a latest and greatest motherboard

I am putting a recording studio system together and I was wondering if any body here can recommend the latest and greatest motherboard that can support P4 3.0Mhz or better and does not have intergrated sound or video card. Stability is the main concern here and can hold at least 2GB of memory. Thanks all in advance.

A little more detail would probably help. Are you using any components that you have already or will this be built from scratch? Plan on gaming at all or will be used soley for a recording studio. Any reason you are set on intel?

Strickly for recording studio and video editing only. Going with P4 because I was told it's better for video editing. I will try to use what ever I can from the current system like media storages, burners, graphic and audio cards, and etc. I will have to get new memory since my current system run on DDR2700.

The thing with the latest and greatest is that you won't be able to bring over your video card. You're also right with the new memory; since you're not gaming, you're definitely better off going with Intel.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of the latest and greatest is strictly limited to AMD and gaming subjects, so I can't really help you. Sorry!

Anyhow, an AMD is better bang for the $$$, but either way, what kind of socket are you looking at? S478 or LGA775?

Kensai, I really don't have any idea what type of socket, but i am looking for a mobo that will support a P4 3.0 GHz processor. I can't afford anything higher than that right now.

Hard to answer that without more info, but here goes...

The latest and greatest Intel motherboards use the following chipsets: 915P,915G,925X, or 925XE (theres a couple more variations, but dont go for those) You will want to stay away from 915G as it has integrated video. So that leaves 915p, 925x, and 925xe. The 925XE is only needed if you want to run a CPU @ 1066 Mhz FSB(3.46 or 3.73GHz Exteme Editions), or if you want to overclock a CPU that has 800Mhz FSB(3.0,3.2,3.4,3.6GHz). So now we have narrowed down to 915p or 925x, with the 925x giving more performance(not much more though). The socket on this mobo is LGA775, which is where the CPU goes. That's what you want to look for when purchasing your new mobo, what kind of socket it uses. There is a 3.0GHz processor for both socket 478 and LGA775, so be careful. You don't have to buy one made by Intel though, of course. In fact, most here would probably tell you not to, because other board makers often give you more features for less money. I did not get the feeling that extra features really means anything to you, so I would just stick with intel(unless your like most people these days that make buying decisions based mostly on price alone, and maybe a few benchmark graphs 🙂).

I would look at the ASUS P5P800 and P5GD1. The GD1 uses newer technology but requires a new video card, and won't give you better performance.
