i'm looking for a cookware set, preferably less than $150.

notice the proper grammar in the topic.

Seriously - Go to Wal-Mart

Avoid the Aluminum cookware, it taints the food ( I'll take my taint straight from the source) and
is suspected as being a contributor to the onset of Alzheimers.

Stainless Steel lasts and dosen't corrode, the copper helps spread the heat evenly.
Glass tops so you can see through and observe the mystery as it happens.

Got a set of the Revere Ware for my wife - she thinks it's the best she ever used.
She liked it so well that we got a set for our daughter as well.

$ 50.00 plus tax - out the door.

depends on your usage and skills (bowhunting skills, nunchuck skills, computer hacking skills)

my cooking skills aren't so hot, my wife doesn't let me touch her $500 calphalon stuff...i use a t-fal nonstick set (got it for 60 bucks at target, 2 years and it's holdin up fine)

edit: nevermind
if you're good enough to double use on stove and in oven, you're good enough to use a non-non-stick pan 🙂

Seriously.. I have tried them all from Iron Clad to Emeril to Wolfgang Puck... to cheapies...

Without a doubt the finest, best made, cookware is cuisinart chef's classic series.

Quick heating, even heat distribution, easy cleanup, truly stay cool handles. they look great and are affordable.

My all time fave!

🙂

Sounds "French"

nope.. they are an AMERICAN company.

🙂

While everyone was boycotting France and French products cuisinart really took a beating... now most of their stuff has "A PROUD AMERICAN COMPANY" sprawled across most of their boxes.

Cuisinart, 150 Milford Road, East Windsor, NJ 08520.

And I got most of mine online.. but i picked up a few pieces at Marshall's for like 60% off.

🙂

I agree with the Cuisinart suggestion, great set for a very reasonable price. My personal decision came down to this and the Emerilware and I liked the Cuisinart better, the Caphalon set was overpriced and the All-Clad exhorbitantly overpriced and I hated the feel of the handles.

As far as being an American company, while they are their gear is still made (where else) in China. I don't think that I've owned a Cuisinart product which hasn't been the best of its class that I've ever had the chance to try. I recently bought their Brew Central coffeemaker and it kicks ass.

I have a few Emeril pieces... the stay cool handles dont... they take forever to heat up... I am not thrilled with the heat distribution. It is no wonder that he doesnt use his own gear on any of his shows.

I have three pieces by All Clad... they do kick ass... but they are too expensive.

another thing that I like about the Cuisinart... besides everything else I listed above... is that when you wash them... you do not have to dry them immediately... like with some of the other brushed/polished stainless that I own... they are all gorgeous... but with the rest... once they are washed they need to be hand dried immediately or they get those water spot type marks in them that only come out if you simmer lemon juice or vinegar in them. And they are nice and heavy... like the more expensive brands.

I have the same coffee pot as you. And I have a toaster oven, ice cream maker, stick blender and electronic scale by them... they make good gear. But I love their Chef;s Classic Stainless Cookware.

Farberware Classic. 15-piece set is $70 on Amazon. My parents are still using their Farberware Classic cookware they got for a wedding present 32 years ago. Great stuff. I plan to get some soon.

Cuisinart is pretty good imo. I have a 10" skillet and a stockpot from them. And of course, their must have food processor.

I've heard that a french press is the way to make coffee. I've have yet to try it. My rents use a krups coffee makre from gevalia, its ok.

I have Calphalon but my wife has scratched up all the frying pans. I'm hesitant to get what I really want which is a nice set of Le Creuset pots and pans because of this. I can just see her stirring something with a metal fork or scraping the bottom of a frying pan with the one metal spatula we have in the house...

The Emerilware are excellent for the price, but avoid unless you have a gas stove. They do heat up fast with gas but take forever on an electric range. This is because of the massive aluminum/copper insert that adds a great deal of weight. Other than that I have had no problems. All-clad actually manufactures these sets.

My suggestion is that whatever you get, get stainless steel or multiclad for your pots and an aluminum teflon non-stick fry-pan. Eggs and other food that is probably going into a fry pan do not like stainless steel, the teflon cleans in a few wipes. Further advice, make sure that you use nylon or plastic spatulas if you do go the non-stick route. However, non-stick just doesn't last. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about, I'm a cajun who grew up with a black lady who is my mom's best friend so I know a little about cooking.

You can't go wrong with the Cuisinart either, its really personal preference.

ps. I've had Revereware handles rip off because of their cheap welds. Don't get anything thats not bolted on if you want it to last.
