hi everyone,

a friend of mine wants to build a system for his Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8 GHz cpu (800 FSB Socket 478). is there a mobo out there that has decent integrated sound and video? also having sata ports would be nice along with ide. please recommend a mobo. thanks.

Well there is the P4P800-VM, which would meet those requirements(well, I wouldn't call the Intel integrated graphics good but they will get the job done as long as he isn't gaming, but there really isn't much in the way of good integrated graphics for socket 478 anyway).

okay, that sounds good. he's building this system for his kids anyways. there's no hardcore gaming involved.

by the way, where is good place to purchase this mobo?

I just ordered the MSI 661FM2-LSR motherboard for one of my old Pentium 4 chips. It seems to get good reviews and has all the components you named. I haven't received it yet, so I can'r speak from personal experience. One of the things that I liked about it is the fact that MSI is still building it. Most of the motherboards you see for the 478 pentiums are out of production.

I have never had much luck with MSI boards, but after reading the reviews, looking at the layout of the board and also considering the components, I decided to give it a try.

Good Luck!
