Please recommend a cheap, but good gaming mouse

Hi folks,

I've been thinking about getting myself a nice wired gaming mouse. I'm primarily a FPS player, so I won't need lots of extra buttons. But I'd like it to be solid and reliable. I looked at a few models, but some of them really look ugly (for instance, there are some with the mouse wheel set in between two prongs, kinda like the Tumbler/Batmobile from the recent Nolan movies)... and I don't know how reliable they are in the long run.

Can you recommend something, preferably under $50?

the g400s is relatively cheap and absolutely top-class. if you have small hands, you can buy an Abyssus from eaby for about £15/e20/$30. i have found goliathus + abyssus bundles for as low as £13. teh sensor is the same as in the deathadder.

the g400 is quite tall, many players swear by it but i had a weird feeling with it; my sniping was good but my fast tracking was kinda meh. but, i never really had the time to get used to it.

if i were you, i'd grab .. a goliathus *CONTROL* LARGE mousemat.

a good mousemat provides a far superior improvement to any mouse .... unless you are really playing with a $5 mouse.

and then i'd wait and splash out on a zowie fk1. because its just so good. not only perfect tracking (which the DA, abyssus and g400/s also do), but a great shape, light but not fimsy, lovely rubberized and lightweight cord, driverless 1khz..

if not ... get a goliathus AND a g400/g400s.

Thanks for the input! I ended up finding the Logitech G400s for CAD35, and I bought one. It's a bit larger and lighter than I'd have preferred, but otherwise it's absolutely fine.

I love the dark field logitech wireless mice but they only last for 1 year under my gaming abuse.

I do not slam them or spill stuff on them but aver time they act like the battery is low and communication drops even though the battery is at 80%

I got a cheap wireless mouse for LAN gaming so I wouldn't miss it if lost or damaged but have been impressed with it. This "Mazer" mouse is 20 bucks and actually ups the ante over most wireless mice by allowing for 250Hz polling, making it more responsive. Then again, it is limited to 250Hz though it is a good tradeoff between battery life and responsiveness, I really don't miss 1KHz. The only design flaw that is obvious is the thumbrest is a little low so if you have an abnormally wide thumb, either it will contact the surface or rest on the side buttons. You can shut off the LED lighting for extended battery life and unfortunately it does not have charging capability. Can't argue with the pricetag.

I know it's a lil over the desired budget, but I'd definitelly recommend you Razer Naga Hex. I had the mouse for ages and I've tried to replace it several times with countles Razer/Logitech mouses, but non of them was as good.

I play games of various styles ( moba, fps, rpg, mmorpg.. ) and the mouse is just awesome in any of them. I also use my pc for school and work. It fits my hands insanely well. If I were you I'd give it a try and go to a local store so you can try it out and see if the extra money is worth it in your case.

Interesting... I also looked at the Xornet, which seems to be using the same design....

If you go with the spawn, update the firmware as the newer firmware makes the liftoff distance basically 0 which is great if you pick up the mouse and reposition it.
