Looking to upgrade from my gforce4 card. Don't want to spend much. $100 tops. AGP slot. I'm lookin at an ati x700 and the x1300. Can anyone recommend one from the two or something else that's good within my price range? Thanks.

For that price mark a 6600GT or 9800Pro would be the way to go. The X1300 is only a 4pipe card and looses out to the 6600GT by quite a margin.

Yes but be carefull as some older AGP slots use a different voltage that can damage the new card. If your using a Geforce 4 you might be ok.

I was reading the specs on the ATI x700 card and it said that the card draws power directly from the PS. Do i still need to worry about the voltage in the AGP slot if the card is getting power from the PS? Is this true for other cards getting power from the PS?

Here is the card i was looking at.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131307

"AGP 8x or 4x graphics slot available on motherboard
Connection to the system power supply is required
300W power supply or greater recommended
256MB of system memory
Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
DVD playback requires DVD drive"

Yeh i think that it does draw some power from the motherboard as well as the PSU. Some older 4X AGP motherboards use a higher voltage than newer ones and can cause a problem with newer AGP video cards. I am rather skeptical as to wether this would effect your directly becuase you mention you use a Geforce 4 which is only 4 years old & if that works ok you should not have a problem. Anyway if you post the make and model of your motherboard i'll chase it up for you. As for the X700Pro it looks like a pretty decent card, should be equivlent to a 9800Pro. Have a look at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814139171R

It would be a better card but im not too sure about the brand.

get a 6600GT. performance should be very good considering the price of the card, and should work with your motherboard (i upgraded from a 4-year-old motherboard using an MX420 (not sure what geforce that is, i think 2?) to a 6800NU AGP; works very well.
