Ok Basement neighbor and I want to get a good multiplayer game going but since I've been out of the MP scene for a while after UT 2K4, I'm not sure where to turn. I thought about putting in old FarCry or NFS: MW, or even splinter cell chaos theory or something for some LAN play but what else that is new am I missing. What about this list and keep in mind we'd rather do coop vs bots than an online campaign. Although there are times where vs. play is fun too:

Gears of war
halo 2
left for dead
wolfenstein

are there any space sims or flying games that u can do coop? Isaw this because this guy loved Starcraft and still loves it. I toldhim to play something more up to date graphically and I like the more FPS and live action games.

What would u reccommend? What am I missing that is recent?
Thanks

I believe the serious sam games are co-op which would be a blast. I would personally recommend some L4D though. Hidden and Dangerous (and 2 w/ the expansion)

Isnt L4D just a zombie bloodbath that you have to stay alive for a few minutes or you loose? Is it boring just playing for a bit and then doing it over again or something? If Im wrong ill definitely pick it up cuz it looked cool, but I read how you play it...

Thanks

No, you are thinking of L4D surivial mode, which gets very repeatative, the campaign mode where you play there lengthy maps with a group of 4 survivors is a blast and since the release of the SDK some good user created maps have popped up.

Also, if you don't mind throwing a little strategy in the mix, I would recommend Rainbox Six Vegas 2. I played this in Co-op on the 360 with some buddies and it was a blast. I believe it's pretty cheap per copy on the PC as well. So it wouldn't cost you a lot either.

Awesome... one last question... does it have to be a party of 4 on L4D or can we do 2 player coop on lan etc?

Thanks again

I would recommend Warcraft Three.
If you download custom games you can find enough completely different ones to keep you interested for years.

I'm not positive on this but I'd assume if there are only two of you than there will be two bots on your team as well. I don't have the game though so I can't really say for how it's programed for LAN play.

Arma 2.
Up to 4 player co-op campaign, online multiplayer vs AI's or pvp as well as a editor that lets you do a lot of neat stuff with units like making your own missions or just screwing around seeing how many APC's it takes to knock out a M1A1. There is a large variety of weapons, vehicles and aircraft.

You can do 2 player co-op but you will be joined by 2 bots as it's always a group of 4, however the bot AI is not bad at all and they are handy at picking off special infected sometimes and they also provide you moments to play the hero when they get incapacitated.

Lots of fun.

I can't speak to how fun RS:V2 is, but it's something like 3 bucks + shipping at gogamer.com right now. As well as a bunch of other games.

I'll also vouch for Serious Sam. However, it's not really stocked at stores (you'd have to get it from amazon or ebay or something), and there's a newer HD version being released soon.

Left 4 Dead, you might have to be careful. It's locked onto Steam (this might be a bad thing), and if you have any steam friends they're probably able to get into your local coop games. L4D only has public/friends-only lobbies, with no LAN only option that I'm aware of. On the other hand, it's good fun. You've got the four default campaigns, and then there are some good customs. Heaven Can Wait and Death Aboard, for example. They are also correct up above, your party of two will be joined by two bots.

This. Although coop with like 10 people is much more fun. I don't know why more games like this haven't come out.

Company of Heroes if you like strategy games. You could play together vs computer foes.
This would be just skirmshes though, there is no co-op campaign that I know of.

L4D Lan Play. That thread has the information to play over LAN with L4D. It is a bit complicated, but that is how I did it for my dorm LANs.
