Will have Windows 98SE and Radeon 64MB VIVO on whichever one of these systems you guys help me out with picking out

Which onw?

Non-DDR
AMD T-BIRD 1000(266MHZ)
IWILL KK266-
32X64 256MB PC133
MWAVE 6606/3
1.44MB FDD
Which comes to 398

or
DDR
AMD T-BIRD 1000(266MHZ)
EPOX 8K7A-Specs
128MB NON-ECC PC2100
MWAVE 6606/3-Specs
Which comes to 402

I am going to play a lot of games on this system, and be doing some Photoshop editing. Which is a better barebones system for those tasks I listed above? 400 total is my limit, so please dont suggest me any better products. So which is better?

Prolly the DDR barebones. The EPOX 8K7A is a AMD 761/VIA 686B board, which is the best platform out there right now. If it was a ALi or a KT266 board, I'd say get the non-DDR barebones. You give up 128Mb with the DDR barebones, but I don't think Win98SE can do much with 256Mb anyway.

If you are going to do Photoshop editing, memory is always nice, but I'd want to be on a Win2K platform, not the Win9x OSs.

The non-DDR barebones is still a very good choice and you would be quite happy with that as well.

I agree go with the DDR system.

DDR SDRAM is so damn cheap right now, if you find 128MB isn't enough then get more. But in Win98SE 128MB probably still enough.

I have a rig with the Epox 8K7A/1GHz t-bird. Great system, I'd reccomend it. However, DDR RAM is dirt cheap now. Why stop at 128MB?

BTW, if you don't have to don't buy the RAM from mwave. You can get it cheaper elsewhere (eg, Crucial). I know when I shopped there, you had to get RAM with a barebones, but not a mobo bundle.

DDR it is, It seems. I will buy this system, then, when the need arises, I will buy another stick of RAM

Any more opinions?

Go for the ddr system, but check the prices at crucial.com for the ddr ram, because right now for a 256 meg stick of pc2100 ddr ram it is like $79 plus they have free shipping, so it is a pretty good deal.

I gotta go w/ the status quo ... DDR is faster and since it is as cheap as PC 133 ...go right ahead
