Please Read: Anandtech Locals Idea

Hey guys,

Just throwing this out there, I think it would be a great idea. It's so weird to me, because on this forum and many like it I feel like I'm kinda like everyone else, there are very smart techie people here and it just seems like they are on the same basis.

Now, whenever I go out into the "real world" there's no way to meet people that are at the same level. There are programming nerds, halo gamers, and kids that know how to run an ipod, but it isn't cool to talk about tech stuff that isn't trendy, so it just never happens. My idea would be an Anandtech Locals kind of thing, it doesn't have to be a meet new people, lets become friends sorta thing, however that could happen. I'd just like to be able to call up, IM, or skype some people in the area whenever I want to talk tech or have questions/computer problems I'd like to consult someone about. Because we all have those little quirks w/ our tech equipment or issues (sometimes disasters) and forums are just to slow, or too much work to deal w/ for that stuff (when your computer breaks, or you have any major problem, posting and waiting an hour or two for a few answers just doesn't cut it).

So, my idea for how this could work would be for whoever wants to be in this program, they could allow their ScreenName and/or skype account, etc. be given to others in the program who are within a certain area. This way, for those who don't want to be in it, don't have to give out some of their information, but then again if you just can't stand a person that you talk to in this program, you just block them and they don't have your phonenumber, address, etc. I would love this program, and I think we Anandtech users should put something like this or along this basis in to effect.

So let me know what you think...

As far as the help with computer problems go I don't know about that one, I mean thats what tech support is for. if you don't like waiting an hour for someone to respond to your post call tech support, thats why they are paid to help you and you pay for them to help you and the kind people of AT do it just to help you.
