No paragraphs, beware (Typed into a tiny text box on their site...)
Some friends and I intend to break or set a record for the world's longest computer LAN (Local Area Network) party. Basically, a lan party is when a bunch of computer gamers meet up at a location, interconnect their computers, and play games for usually a few days. If the category were to be accepted, I would most likely have a minimum of six people all together plus a lan party time of one week. Most LAN parties are one to three days long. LAN parties are not underground geek parties which happen once a year. Some LAN parties attract thousands of gamers while handing out prizes well into the tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars. These professional LANs usually last two to three days. Other LAN parties, the small and medium sized ones, usually have less or no prizes and sometimes end up in someone's basement. To show you how often LAN parties occur, I suggest you visit www.lanparty.com and look at The Big List (link on the top left side of the site). Click on List By Date at the top of the list and you'll see just how frequent these lan parties are (many occuring every single day). Keep in mind that these are just the LAN parties registered with the site, hundreds (maybe even thousands) occur each week, whether it's in someone's basement or a professional rented-out area, whether it's 4 people or 400 or 4,000, these gamer havens are spreading quickly. They have a highly competitive atmosphere, and are highly recognized by the gaming community. After all, you really can't coordinate thousands of people with a multi-thousand dollar prize over the internet. I'd probably guess 6-12 people could make it to the LAN to set the record. After all, there's no way I could possibly organize enough people to set the largest lan party record 😉
Oh, by the way, if you even think about stealing my idea, you'll get beaten down with the eons of free time which I possess 😛
