THIS is what i am really interested in, post your review, benches, OC specs if you have a 3570k (or 3770k) and a Hyper 212+/evo or other air cooling, saying if you lapped or not, what paste, volatge, etc..

tnx :) you are all very groovy

(duplicate thread? i looked but could not find?)

Well, IF Microcenter ships out my 3570K (got a confirmation early this morning), I should have it Wednesday, and I'll be pairing it with a Hyper 212+ Evo. I will post my results for sure.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I ordered the 212 plus (nearly the same thing) and a 3570k. Supposed to be here wed if you are still interested then

i'm at 1.07 and 4.3 is doable with Hyper n212. Temps are moving into the mid-upper 60s under OCCT but 4.4GHz is not doable at stock voltage even though the temps are good.

i'll try 1.15V to see if 4.4GHz explodes or not

If you read that thread apoppin takes the Ivy chip as far as he can go using a 212+. His temps were too hot at 4.6/4.7ghz, but it would probably work fine at 4.5ghz.

4.3-4.4 is the max rec for such a cooler. For 4.4-4.5+ get noctua and for 4.5-4.7+ get h100 for 4.7+ get custom water. Ideally keep occt temps under 75c

looks like 4.5 will be the standard for pretty much everyone who's buying into 1155 and doesn't have a WC loop. given that IB4.5 = SB 4.8, i'd say i't pretty good :)

I'll probably try for 4.4 on my 212+ Evo, don't want to be running too hot. Won't be the best OC but it will beat the pants off my E8400.

I think if you can live with moderate OC, what you can do is try 4,2-4,4 range and set the vcc as low as it can go, undervolting below stock volt even. You 212+ should probably handle it fine at that range.

Yeah but not sustained for a decent period of time.
Evo will be definitely better than the 212+ see the link above.

But not as good as a nh-d14 or phanteks or tc-812...

agreed but the issue is that if 4.4 or 4.5 is feasible on a $20 cooler, then 4.7 on a H100 or other $100 cooler is not worth it .. considering the chip costs $200.

ofc if you want the maximum OC you can get then money is no object.

I actually picked up a Zalman CNPS10X Performa. It is supposed to outperform the 212 EVO and the Noctua U12p according to the reviews. I got it for $20 on a shellshocker deal so we will see.

The nice thing about decent cpu cooling is that it's an investment that lasts, for a long time. My water loop has seen several chips, on several platforms, from both AMD and Intel. One of the better investments I made actually

Sometimes it doesn't help much, sometimes it helps a great deal, always it makes directing heat output much more feasible.

balla just curious, do you have to add water to the loop from time to time? I mean what type of maintenance work you have to do for your loop?

Get a 3820. I got mine to 4.75 @ 1.355v. I have room temp and voltage wise but it won't post at all at 4.875. It was mid 70's during P95 with the Megahalem.

Ivy runs so hot you won't get the max clock with that cooler.

is this really true?

Ordered my 3570k tonight, and now im debating which cooler to use for it.

I've got a tuniq tower 120 right now that is on my Q6600, that im probably going to end up keeping there. Ive got a ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT on a really old 4200+ that id rather not move as well, and then ive got a hyper 212+ that is brand new in the box that i ordered by mistake.

If i can get to 4.5 on the H212 then i guess im fine with that, but i sort of dont want to spend more money on a cooler, when i know im going to want a newer/better one when i upgrade my rig again.

Which kinda leads me into considering water cooling. If i were to buy the best air cooler possible, id be spending 100 dollars anyway, so maybe i should just suck it up and try out water.

My thing is i feel like its a hassle and i really dont like messing with my PC all that much once its all set up. Plus id always be worrying about something happening.

SO should i just go with the H212 or spend 60-100 dollars on a cooler that will get me >4.5 on air?

You'll see when you get your 3570k and crank up the ghz.

Just order a Noctua NH-D14, Phanteks, or Silver Arrow SB-E from newegg which ever is cheaper.

The Cooler Master TC 812 looks intriguing too but the above 3 should be just fine.

argh i probably will. I just about always end up getting a new cooler everytime i upgrade, just because I want a little more performance, and i dont wanna remove it from the old system. Do people buy used coolers? Im going to have 2 extra that i really dont need.

also how would you rank the 3 i already have from best to worst. and can i order new parts to make them fit 1155, if i lost the original/didnt come with that mount kit?

is the evo only slightly different? IF i put a new fan in the old one, will it be just as good as the new one?

And what is the consensus on the H212+ for hitting 4.5?
