A family friend's 15 year-old child, Ricky, started getting ill two weeks ago with fever. The doctor prescribed Cefzil, a cefalosporin antibiotic. After taking this for 10 days, Ricky eyes started to wiggle, his behavior has become erratic, singing spontaneously, looking out the window for no apparent reasons, and suffering from other twitches. It's clear he's not in his right mind, and exhibits the classic symptoms of mentally disturbed behavior.
They ruched him to the hospital at the first sign of this, and the doctors did a battery of tests. They said ther eis no meningitis.
What is going on here? I am convinced that it is some sort of encephalitis - I don't buy the doctor's results. The kid is acting like he's certifiably insane. I've known this kid his whole life, and he's clearly messed up. I'm scared, and am frantically scouring the net to see if Cefzil has caused this in anyone else, or if the medicine is not the reason.
Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions?
