Please permanently ban religious deals in Hot Deals (like pyramid schemes, tobacco and pornography)

First off, hats off to the mod that had the courage to stand up and ban religious "deals." this thinly veiled proselytizing by a spirited few really has no place in a mostly tech deal site. but i noticed that the sticky post that was placed at the top of the forums has disappeared and the forum rules have not been modified to reflect this rule. I hope that the mods will modify the forum's rules to reflect this sentiment. i am fairly certain that i am not alone with this view.

So.... ban anything that is non-tech? I'm not terribly religious (well... that's probably overstating it), but nobody complains about any other kinds of free books, why pick on Bibles?

Geoff

I am not religious at all but e.g. free religious books are good for some people. If you don't like religious deals don't reply to them and let them drop instead of thread crapping them.

It's not the religious deals that are the problem.

It's all those flamers and religion bashers that get into it with the religious people.

Personally, I would like to see it back and those that start flame wars in those threads be given vacations to think about their stupidity for a week or so.

Nitemare - precisely... the rules for replying to posts in HD are clear... flaming/bashing = BAD and should be dealt with. If the content of the HD meets the guidelines for posting, then it's fair game. Condoms are okay and Bibles aren't? That's ludicrous!

As much as I'd personally rather see a hot deal on something for a computer, I don't see a problem with allowing other freebies, even if they are religious in nature. Yes, the problem is the folks that feel compelled to come into the thread and make trouble. I doubt I'll look at many of the "religious" hot deals and that's ok by me.

I got a better idea. Why don't you and any other troublemakers just stay out those threads. If you don't stick your nose in there you won't have to worry about what is being posted. If it is a legitamate Hot Deal on a religious article or book, and no one is trying to "convert" someone in the thread, you should have nothing to say. Sheesh, leave these folks alone already :disgust:
