For a system that will be mostly used for office apps & surfing, obviously with an under $55 price tag [before shipping] it won't be used for gaming.

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I'm totally clueless about post 1995 video/graphics cards.
Thanks :)

I believe that a Matrox video card might be suitable. It doesn't have to be a G400, but check them out. Best to surf their website and check the product lineup. I have only owned ont Matrox video card and it was decent for 2D applications.

My 2 cents

Hmm the Matrox G400 is kinda expensive I think. The G200 is good but good luck finding one.

A Voodoo 3 might suit you well. The only reason I say that is because it has pretty good 2d quality.

I believe TigerDirect is selling the Matrox 400 for $59.95 if
your budget can handle it.
NewEgg sells the ATI Xpert 2000 for $39 plus shipping.
Plus I just purchased a 3Dfx VooDoo 2000 AGP (new OEM) for $40
(shipping included) from Team Excess..........

Newegg also has the Hercules Kyro 4000 for $63 shipped. Pretty fast gaming card for the buck.

The Kyro would be a jump above the Matrox and Voodoo for 3D gaming. Not quite as good 2D as the Matrox, probably fairly equal to the Voodoo in 2D.

I think the 2D quality of G200 or mil2 is better than G400.
If you don't care for playing game, G200 AGP will be really good.

The Rage Pro 128 Xpert 2000 can be had for about $40. It is 32MB 2X AGP. Load DirectX 8.0 and the latest special purpose driver from the ATI site, it has killer 2D. The Radeon tweaker can be used to overclock to 125/145. It supports DVD and has all sorts of color adjustments. My wife has had a choice of many so-called "superior" video cards, but she prefers this just for the laser sharp 2D, and it does play games decently when tweaked properly.
