For a non-touch device (laptop, desktop), what would your current preference be? I haven't followed 8 much since launch, but I understand they brought back the start button. If it's possible to operate this entirely in "old school" non-tile mode, is there a reason to still opt for 7?

I liked pippa better 🙁

Anyways yeah you can make 8.1 just like 7 by installing a 3rd party start menu. The start button was just added to troll people it still takes you to metro. I would get 8.1, install classic shell and be done with it. Although 7 is still a good choice too.
