Not well labelled. it is PCI. the PCB is as tall as the metal part of the card. I see something marked 10L6633. It is a 56k modem. There is a lucent chip on it. My main question is: hardware or winmodem?
I'm not an expert but I think that WinModems rely on CPU power. So when it is in use you'll notice a slowdown in system speed, whereas a hardware modem doesn't rely too much on the cpu.
Depends on the Lucent chipset in question, but Lucent "Venus" is hardware, "Mars", "Apollo", and "Luna" are software. This is a "Luna" chipset as referenced by the IBM support page and the Linux Winmodem database under GVC DK4TAI-32210-M5-E.
If you do a search for "Venus" in the database, you'll come up with a bunch of hardware modems. I know Actiontec puts out two still on the market, namely the Call Waiting PCI and DeskTalk Master. The others are ones you might find under the CompUSA label, or simply marked generic. I hope you find one you want.
