err, there are no special drivers..if your motherboard supports SATA 3G, then it will run at that speed..there are no SATA 2 drivers.

@ shorunner...lol.. I really dont know how I screwed it up...lol.. was my first build and I dont think I did the F6 thing correctly when windows prompted at initial install of XP..windows is running perfectly (well..for windows)..lol..

@ stevty2889 ..As you can see in the above specs.. I have the Gigabyte K8N PRO-SLI mobo..and it required I d/l from their site, onto a floppy, some SATA drivers and install them when first installing windows..I am not sure if they were the wrong drivers or I just plain screwed up the install as I was telling shorunner..

I wish i could see the benefits of useing SATA2 as both my HD and mobo support this function.ATM running Everest Home edition ..tells me I amd running my HD in ATA133..and that suxs.If I could "at least" get my Hd running at ATA150 I "might" be satisfied... Thanks guys for the responses

You don't need to provide drivers via F6 when using the SB SATA ports. When drivers aren't provided they will function as IDE ATA devices. They can easily be switched to SATA by going to device manager and updating the drivers for the controllers to the SATA version instead of the default IDE controller (2 of them are real IDE controllers). Do not force the drivers, if they are SATA controllers windows should recognize the SATA driver as being compatible.

Why not run HDtach, and see what speeds your hard drive is running at. The sustained speed isn't going to be much more than 55mb/s(which isn't enough to fully use ATA66, let alone SATA 3G), but your burst rate should be around 150mb/s or higher. Mine gets a 167.8mb/s burst rate, and I didn't install any extra drivers. The press F6 thing for windows, is for older motherboards, that didn't have native SATA controllers, or for raid drivers. It's no longer neccessary for newer motherboards. And if they were the wrong drivers, then windows install wouldn't even see your hard drive, thats why they were needed originaly.

Thank you for the help guys.. I d/led HDtach..(free version) and here are results

long test:
Sequential Read Speed(by the graph) from aprox. 62MB/s at 1 GB to 35MB/s @250GB

Burst Speed: 171.2MB/s

Random Access:13.5ms

Average Read: 53.0MB/s

Are these readings about normal for my HD?..Western Digital 250GB 3G?..model WD2500KS?

Those readings are correct for your drive. I have the exact same one. If your burst speed is higher than 150mb/s(which it is), then it's running at it's rated speed(if it was limited to ATA133, your burst rate couldn't be higher than 133).
