Please Help

I usually use Skype, but my grandfather wants to see one of his old friends again. He lives in Arkansas and only speaks Chinese, so I can't ask him to instal Skype. He uses QQ, like the asian QQ "skype." I downloaded it, but can't make a connection to the server. The window called "Network Settings" right after you register a number asks for proxy settings and stuff, and I don't know how to make it work.

To clarify, my grandfather's friend is the one that uses QQ. I have his QQ number, but I can't get my QQ installation to work.
