Here is the situation. Last week after 9 months of not a single crash my system would not boot up. Power light but no beep and just black screen. Then after a drive to my office, power light then beep then black screen. Eventually after repeated trying of different things, jumping the CMOS, uninstalling all cards etc..., it started up again when it was all put back together. So here is my problem, every time I shut down or restart it default to a standard VGA card and does not recognize my Geforce 4 TI 4200. It sees it when it loads up my main Bios screen, but no go after that. If I uninstall it from my computer then hit look for new hardware it finds it installs drivers and works fine until I have to restart or shut down again at which point the viscious circle starts again. When it has standard VGA driver it uses the name Geforce 4 but yellow exclamation mark and says device cannot be started?

Please help do I need a new card or is the problem deeper?

AMD 2200+
Dragon MB KT 400 Plat ED
512 DDR PC 3200 Ram
Ltd Ed WD Caviar 80GB HD.
Geforce 4 TI 4200 64MB

Thanks,

Jeff

nVidia's uninstall program often leaves dusty bits of itself on your drive. If your nVidia driver has become corrupt, you may need a utility like Detonator Destroyer to remove all of it before you re-install the driver. You may also want to check nVidia's site to see if there are any issues or updates that deal with your specific setup, including your OS and/or hardware.

Hope that helps. Good luck. :)

Welcome to the forums Gynoid

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the latest drivers for your vid card?

(edit) thanks Harvey, I was searching for those as you were posting

I will try detonator destroyer, but as for uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, yep. That is the problem I go through device manager and uninstall it then finds the new hardware installs the latest driver and it works fine. But... when I power down the system, and it restarts or I turn it back on an hour later, it has lost the drivers and is using standard vga again. For some reason something is not retaining the memory of the card being there? Also since it is the only graphics card in my system if it was totally shot, there would be no display at all or am I wrong?

Thanks guys,

Jeff
