This makes no sense to me. I've got CAT 5 routed like this "wall > CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD > Asus AC68U router". Router is running Tomato firmware. Sometimes the router shows it's got a lease other times it doesn't but I get no internet regardless. I've switched out cables, same issue. Connect laptop directly to the wall I get internet. Ok so I think something is wrong with the cyberpower. I connect the router directly to the wall, I get internet. So I really think it's the cyberpower. So for kicks I connect "wall > cyberpower > laptop" I get freaking internet! For some reason connecting wall, cyberpower and router I can't get internet. To further muddy the waters, ISP has been working on the internet and I did have a brown out yesterday. I had some connection issues yesterday but eventually it started working again with the "wall > cyberpower > router" setup. But today I have these problems with this same wiring setup. Help!

Do you have a cable modem? If so it sounds like it married itself to your laptop after the brown out. If so you'll have to connect the router again directly to the cable modem as the only thing attached then power cycle the modem.

Nope straight from the wall. I did try setting the WAN to having the same MAC as my laptop still no dice.

Who's your ISP and what internet subscription ?, odd you dont have some kind of modem...

And stop using the UPS if it is causing problems.

There's almost certainly some kind of modem on the other end of that line feeding your wall jack. Who is the ISP?

If it's a DOCSIS cable modem, it is typically configured with a CPE limit of 1, meaning it will only assign an IP address to the first MAC ID that it sees. If you change routers or bypass the router and expose your computer directly, you typically need to power cycle the modem to reset the CPE table and allow the connected device to obtain an IP address.

What IP address does your computer report when it's connected directly to the wall? Is it a private IP address? (192.168.x.x / 172.x.x.x / 10.x.x.x)

Public IP. It did change from what it was before. If there is a modem I don't know where it is.

So what comes out from the wall? Cat5?

So cat5 from wall --> Cybperpower Network In --> Network Out to ASUS router's WAN port?

Like ch33 said, probably Cyberpower is causing problem. Remove it and see how it goes.

There should be cable modem somewhere, probably in the garage. Since ASUS AC68 is just a router, not a modem+router combo.

Ok, who's the ISP? are you living in a apartment building or a residence where this is shared?

either way, the demarcation point is somewhere between you and the ISP.

Maybe it's a fiber to the home type of setup?

You gotta give us more to go on if you want a more thorough evaluation.

in the end, don't use the UPS to filter anything, there's no power on the ethernet anyways, and the UPS isn't guaranteed to stop a surge, and is definitely not filtering for power sags on those ethernet ports.

You're better off just ensuring the router is plugged into the UPS battery protected side.

Well I don't know where the modem is. I do live in an apartment building so maybe it's outside. The router works connected directly to the wall. It just doesn't work from the UPS, but my laptop does. Doesn't make sense to me.

You need to talk to the person in building in charge of the Interent service and get from him/her a list of proper setting that comply with the Buildings main setting.

You probably share internet with other residents.

You have to talk to apartment manager to get what kind of internet service you have.

Remove UPS from the ethernet connections, only use it to power your router and other devices, UPS does not help at all for getting online.
