I have been trying to download Sin and the new Half-Life game for several days now to no avail. When I clink on the appropriate link I get "this page can not be displayed". Steam tech support has not returned my emails. Any help is always appreciated.

Well I have tried disabling my firewall (outpost)and my antivirus, which does not help, and I have no router. Could this have something to do with Java?

Download the new Steam update through Internet Explorer. Firefox apparently cannot interpret the steam:// protocol command.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am using Internet Explorer. Any other suggestions please?

Are you running Peer Guardian with http blocking? I know the PG blocks Valve's update servers by default so Steam doesn't work unless I whitelist Valve's servers.

Are they in your game list (just not installed), or do you need to purchase them first?

No. I need to purchase. But when I click the purchase link is when I get the "page can not be displayed".

Nope, not running Peer Guardian either. Thanks for the responses. Anymore? This is getting frustrating.

Turn your security and privacy/cookie settings all the way down in IE.

yeah, this is my thoughts, too.

It sounds like you aren't having a problem with steam, but a problem with the steampowered website letting you on to a secure page. If your settings are too high, sometimes IE doesn't tell you, it just cancels the loading and gives the Page Cannot Be Displayed.

I'm having the exact same problem... were you able to fix it?

edit: fixed it. FYI I went to steampowered.com and reinstalled Steam and now it works. It looks like when I initially installed, the Steam:// protocol was not registered in Windows. Works fine now.
