please help with sdram choice

Since most here have far more experience than I, please help with this choice:

System: E6600 (2-core) cpu, Intel DG965WH mobo

Timing choices for 4GB modules (2x2GB):
4-4-4-12 from G-Skill
or
5-5-5-18 from Crucial

Will the difference in timing matter for this system (photo editing & spreadsheet are the only 'heavy' use)?

Is there a difference in quality control between these two manufacturers?

Many thanks in advance for advice & comments.

Easy, Gskill is cheaper and has better timings at the same speed 🙂

I've had awesome luck with gskill memory in the past. Had a couple dead Crucial Ballistix DDR1 kits a while back but at this point I'd expect quality control for both to be very good - so go with the cheaper and faster one.

doubt you will notice any difference with any ddr2-800 with that setup. dual interleaved ddr2-800 ram with a 1066fsb cpu. don't waste your money on anything fancy.

but only buy ram that is jedec rated which iirc 1.8V for DDR2 - if its 1.9V - run

funny you mention JEDEC specs

What is the JEDEC specs for DDR3?

im currently using 12gb (6x2gb) of the DDR2 1066 bin of that same memory, wonderful stuff. got it back when it was $45 a kit on newegg about this time last year, what a steal. given it's the same price as the crucial, i would definitely just get that. if you plan to overclock however, the exact kit that im using is $10 more, and wouldnt limit your OC capabilities at all, definitely worth it if thats your thing

ed: should mention, crucial ballistix had some really really bad QC issues through 2007-2008, and it was still easy enough to find those kits through 2009 from etailers who ordered by the thousands. frys actually stopped carrying crucial around that time because we were getting an insane rate of returns on those bad kits. friend of mine got 2 2x1gb kits of it a while back, at different times, and one of them was bad out of the box @ its rated speed. currently using the other kit myself now in another system and it's still going strong however

* Yes there is a difference in timing between these two RAM choices...
One is 4-4-4-12 and the other is 5-5-5-18.
Will those timings make any difference in your use? No
* I'm sure there is a difference in quality control. But since i don't work for either company I don't know what those differences are (neither would anyone that doesn't work for the companies).

Thank you all for your help.

Emulex -- thank you especially; most of the modules that have better timings that Crucial's are 1.9 v, and the Intel guide says it runs only at 1.8 v.
