Please help with/recommend my first video camcorder!!

I'm looking to buy a video camcorder (I think) and would appreciate everyone's recommendations. This should help many others as well, not just me.

I'm going on a couple of small trips this summer with my friends, and I'd like to film our adventures and antics. I just recieved a whole bunch of money for my HS graduation and thought a camcorder would be nice to have. Other than these trips, it will only be used occasionally, so I'd like to spend $500 maximum. Then again, I am one of those people who really likes to get a good deal and make the right decision -- hence I end up paying more for something better and with more features. So for the price requirement, just remember that.

One of my main requirements is small size, so MiniDV is probably the way I'll go. For reference, I used a friends Panasonic PV-DV401 and thought is was too big.

Let's see what we get with just those requirements...Thanks in advance everyone!

well... i know that if you get a cam with "night vision" you can purchase a filter and it would actually remove a layer of clothing on people...

the website had examples of it removing a layer.. for example you see a females bra instead of her shirt through the cam/filter.. it was pretty nice although the filter costs $130.. i think

if you want more info.. let me know
