greetings,

just got my 3500+ and a8v. everything went smoothly except i am having one problem. at boot, the system reports that there is a "CPU Fan Error".

The fan is working properly, and the BIOS even reads the rotational speed properly. it just shows the error every time unless i tell the BIOS to ignore the status of the fan. i looked on asus site and there are no bios updates for this board yet. i reseated the cable and still get the error.

weird. anyone have any suggestions? thanks

This doesn't really help any, but I am curious how the system is running otherwise. I think I'm going to build the same system if I decide not to wait for PCI-Express, which I figure is still around 2 months off.
What video card do you have running with it? Any problems? Speedy as it should be? :)

If your fan is in the "red', slow RPM (I think below 1800RPM), it'll give you a fan error. No big deal really as long as your temps are ok. You can turn the F1 stop off in the BIOS no problem.

thanks astrocat - right now i have it on ignore, so the error doesn't come up. maybe they will correct this issue in a BIOS update.

as for the rest of the system, it's been great. only been up and running for about 20 hours now, but no problems at all. the wireless option is pretty cool too. one more question though, i have a 160GB SATA seagate and a 60GB maxtor. i can't seem to find a way in BIOS to tell it to boot from the sata drive - am i just missing it?

how many wires are on the fan ?
or is there an unused fan connector left on the motherboard ?
possibly adding a better and/or extra 3 wire fan could be a good choice :)

it's a 3-wire fan that plugs right in with no extra wires. i thought the fan was OK - it's a vantec stealth. maybe i will try another one just in case.

a freind of mine had an asus a7v333 and one of the fan connector's traces fryed on him for some reason or another
he said he saw the sparks and stuff
if it won't work with all the fan connectors populated with 3 wire fans then it is prob doa or needs to be returned

good luck
