Here is my situation. I purchased this item,

http://www.pcliquidator.com/detailproduct.asp?which=380

To put together for a friend that has not computer. So anything is better than what he has. I loaded Win 98SE onto it without a hitch. I then loaded a different video card that I had drivers for a old Voodoo 3, I also used a Aureal Vortex Super Quad card that I alreadyhad the driver disk for. I also stuck a Supra Express modem in as well. I have tried various combinations of the 3 items and can't get them all to work at the same time. The audio card HAS worked but not with the modem installed. Then when the modem works the audio card will not allow the drivers to load. It gets almost finished and then just locks up. I also tried a Fortissimo II card and it does the same thing. I have checked and the IRQ assignments are all different. The other thing is the modem is on COM 3 instead of what I think is the more normal COM 1 or 2? I have re-formatted and installed all this stuff multiple times and still can't get them to work at the same time? Any help in the right directions would be mucho appreciated!
Thanks!

Couple of things come to mind... first off in the bios under "integrated componets" (I think...?) there is a setting for plug & play OS...? be sure to set it to NO.... It does sound like you have a resource conflict (maybe not IRQ`s but other resources...?) I seem to remember with the MVP3C chipset you need to download an update...? I had this same board and it gave me fits and was so glad to get rid of it... (just being honest... :) )

Thanks for the tips! I checked and the "plug and play OS" was set to No. There is definitely some sort of conflict going on. Other than checking the items sharing the same IRQ I don't really know where to start looking? The box is running like a top with the video, modem and 256mb of RAM installed. I just need to get the sound installed. What about the modem being set to COM 3, is that a problem? I don't know how to re-assign that to COM1 or COM 2 if that needs to be done? I am about to download the VIA 4 in 1 drivers and see if that helps anything. I do know the sound card works fine with the drivers I have since I had them installed earlier. The modem wouldn't work then! Oh well and advice from anyone would be aprreciated! :)
