Hi all,

I've seen that Dell are currently having a sale and I think I might buy their 27 "monitor.
Can anyone tell me any reason not to get this monitor?

Anyway, I will need to build a new PC to be able to handle the high resolution. Any input will be appreciated!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Some gaming (RPG/RTS/some FPS), Office, Internet browsing.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread.

~$USD2,000

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
New Zealand

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
I prefer Intel processors and name brand motherboards, graphic cards etc.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Don't intend to use any current parts

6. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No overclocking

7. What resolution will you be using?
2560 x 1440

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
1 to 2 weeks. Planning to buy monitor today as last day of sale.

9. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

I will need to buy windows 8

Thanks for your help!

What site(s) do you normally use to buy computer parts? Most around here (including me) won't have a good feel for NZ pricing.

OK, here goes:

i5 3570 $283
GA-H77-D3H $163
Kingston DDR3 1600 8GB $63
Sapphire 7950 3GB $478
Samsung 830 128GB $145
Seagate 1TB $98
Lite-ON DVD Burner $30
Antec HCG-520W $97
Antec Three Hundred Two $89
Windows 8 $141
Total: $1587

This is without keyboard and mouse, so add ~$100 if you need those as well. You'll also need an extra SATA cable since your board only comes with two (don't go out of your way to buy that exact one, just pick one up from whatever store you end up using).

If you want to spend a little more money, you can get 16GB of RAM instead of 8GB, but that will only help if you work with really big spreadsheets (or a lot of them). You could also double the SSD or HDD capacity if you need more primary/secondary storage.

Sounds good, just make sure that you stick with a controller when you double the SSD size (Samsung 830, Crucial M4, Intel 330/520).
