So I recently updated my defective (chipset fan broke) a8v-e deluxe mobo (via chipset) with an msi k8n neo4-f motherboard (nforce4 chipset). I used to be able to get ~60 fps on high detail with battlefield 1942: forgotten hope mod. Now with the upgrade, I average about 50 with some details turned off and it really slows down when there's a lot going on.

I've had the same hardware between both boards.

Athlon64 3200+ (oc'd to 2.2ghz, i just overclocked it on this motherboard, it was running stock on the old one)
Kingston 1gb dual channal ram pc3200
x850 pro 256mb card (oc'd a bit)

I was under the impression that the nforce board was strides above via in terms of game performance, but I haven't seen it yet.

Please help! Much thanks!

Is this BIOS update for your motherboard? The fixes for ver. 1.5 state:
1. This is AWARD BIOS release
2. This BIOS fixes the following problem(s) of the previous version:
- Supports Matrox G450 AGP card.
- Updates CPU ID.
- Updates NVRAID ROM firmware to Ver:4.60.
That's your card. If this is your board, and you haven't updated, it may be your answer. :)

Sorry I didn't specify that I have an agp card. I have the latest bios version from the msi website, as of like three days ago.

MSI has several models called K8N so I wasn't sure which was yours. Sometimes, the lastest BIOS isn't the best for you. It depends on what they fixed, whether the fix affected something else, and whether there's another bug in the new BIOS. Unless you need whatever the latest BIOS addresses, you could try a more mature version that covers your CPU and other components.

Did you check the BIOS settings to make sure they hadn't changed after you flashed it? Many BIOS's reset to the default settings when you flash them.

FYI, the Edit button is in the lower right corner of each post.

I was just checking the bios settings, and they look all good. CPU Multi set to 9x, the FSB is at 200, which is underclocking it.

But when I boot into windows and I look at everest, it tells me that my cpu multiplier is 5x, not 9x. And my cpu is clocked at 1000 mhz. This must be where its bottlenecking. Can you help me fix this problem?

You didn't say whether you had this problem before you flashed the BIOS. Are the video settings correct, including making sure the default video is PCI-E? If so, try these:

1. Clear the CMOS by powering down and using the jumper. Then, reboot and see if it detects everything correctly. Some boards require this to get the settings right after flashing. You may still have to respec the default video connection.

2. If that doesn't work, manually set the FSB and multiplier to the correct values.

3. If that doesn't work, try re-flashing your BIOS.

Good luck. :)

I would make sure I updated the bios to the newest version... I would also go the ati's website made sure I had the newest drivers from them... if that didnt help you I would try the omega drivers www.omegacorner.net (optimized drivers)

Cool and quiet will will change how fast your processor is depending the demand of what your doing at the time that is why it is running at 1000
