I'm about to pull the trigger on a new system. (Work allows me a new system annually... :))

I'm struggling between the two boards right now, and would love your opinions on which one I should get:

1.) EVGA E760 Classified "Overclocker's Pick".

I'm leaning this way because of EVGA's support & warranty, which is an upside. Downsides include that there is no SATA 6g or USB3.

2.) ASUS Rampage III

Great reviews, and plenty of goodies. Don't know anything about their quality, or support. I do know that, for around the same price as the E760, it has USB 3.0 and SATA 6gb.

Here's the rest of the build:

i7 950
Patriot Viper II Sector 7 edition 12gb
2x EVGA gtx 480 SC (I hope to add a third at some point.)
EVGA Classified SR-2 1200w PSU
Seagate Barracuda XT SATA 6.0 2tb 7200 drive
Super Talent 120gb Ultradrive ME SSD (for the OS)
Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev b CPU Cooler
LG W300H 30" 2560x1600

Thanks in advance...

Thanks....

Though, I've had an incredible nightmare with my last x58 board from them.

After going through 4 refurb mobos, they sent me a brand new one... which up and died on me after a month of use.

I've been using an EVGA and it's rock solid... Don't know much about ASUS' support.

LOL
Had a similar thing happen to me a few years back with an Asus board and I moved to a Gigabyte and have no issues with any system I have built with Gigabyte boards the last few years.

So if you'd ask me i'd say Asus boards are overpriced that are all about extra bling in the box. ;)

So i guess it does just come down to past personal experience as to what name brand you prefer like most hardware.

BTW: I am currently running the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R in my own main rig with an i7-920 @ 4.2ghz and 12gb Gskill, that's why i suggested it, since it was an easy overclock and has been rock stable for me since i built it.

EDIT: If i can offer any other advice it would be..
Pick your board first , then ask owners of that motherboard what memory they are using. (especially when using 12gb)
That will undoubtedly save you some possible headaches.

I saw that, and almost got it... but I'm running 480 SLI, and with that heat, there has to be space between those cards. The SLI3 has 16x, 16x, and 8x, meaning that I would have to drop the second card in a 8x slot.

I still don't understand why developers do this.

Good point... I hadn't thought about that.

I was going to pickup the patriot viper ii 12gb with the EVGA because there was a great combo deal at NEWEGG ($125 off for both.)

Prolly shouldn't let newegg make my memory choice, huh...
