Please help with my BFG 8800gt error!

I can load into bios and even into the windows xp loading screen, but when I get into the OS the startup sound plays but the the monitor says there is no signal. However, when I uninstall the drivers I can boot all the way into XP.

So I know the error must be with the driver, but what should I do? Thanks in advance!

I tried doing that three times, made sure I have the correct drive letter(I'm on drive G and it was on C the first install), and it didn't work.

I have a soyo 24" monitor and from what I've read the problem might be with the monitor not automatically switching from vga to digital, is there a way to fix that?

Also, what are some other ways to fix this type of error?

You can probably test this theory out if the monitor has a vga input. If you're able to boot into Windows with the vga cable and not the DVI, then it would appear that it is an issue with the monitor.

I've responded in several posts about this but few seem to be listening! Not you OP.

I had this happen in Windows XP when I first bought my GTX in 06. My Samsung LCD would blank out. I tried everything, cable swapping, driver cleaning, even fresh OS install. Nothing worked. Only thing that did was to use the the DVI to VGA adapter and a VGA cable. Monitor was new so I exchanged it twice thinking it might be the DVI port. Ended up getting a Viewsonic, issue solved.

Recently, same thing in Vista x64 with the GTX and Viewsonic LCD. Again, same tricks leading up to a fresh OS install. End result, DVI to VGA adapter and use of a VGA cable. I was in the proces of selling the GTX anyway so problem solved for now. But who knows if it will pop back up with the GTS I plan to buy. With GT users seeing it I'm not optimistic.

It's not the monitor, it's not the card, it's not old drivers fouling things up. And it's not a "known Vista issue" as nVidia tried telling me because XP users are seeing it too. All indications point to forceware drivers as the culprit.

I could boot into Vista in safe mode and uninstall forceware drivers. But as soon as I reinstalled them, blank screen halfway thru boot. Fresh OS install, default PNP driver loads up, everything fine. Before I did anything else, load forceware drivers and bam, same problem.

Dozens of posts, some old some new, some dating back to 98.xx forceware. There are two constants, forceware and the use of a DVI cable.

It's an nVidia driver issue that I've yet to see them acknowledge, likely because it's so random. It can happen with numerous LCD makes/models. The problem's been popping up since the 7 series. Oh, and I've tried three DVI cables.

Lots of posts across the web. You're not alone OP. Do a google search on forceware screen blanking, nvidia screen blanking, etc. If nothing else works for you, try a VGA cable..

This is why I went with the 3870 instead of the 8800GT. There is just too many *my 8800GT is not working* threads around. Even though I loved my 8800GTS...but...still.

I would try to uninstall the Monitor drivers, and use the Windows own generic/built-in monitor drivers.

ACER would not even provide a model specific driver for my 22" LCD, and I have not had any problems with the DVI ports or any of the drivers/Video Cards (7950GT and 8800GT).

I believe SteelSix is correct - there must be a conflict between NVidia Forceware drivers and the monitors manufacturers' own drivers.

Again, use ONLY Windows drivers (Plug and Play monitor), and see if this helps.

Good luck!

In both cases (Samsung and Viewsonic), I eliminated the possibility it was their driver causing the problem. I did a fresh OS install and installed nothing else. No sound card, nothing. Windows boots with default VGA drivers for LCD and video card. No issue. Install forceware drivers, blank screen on reboot.

The problem with using the default Windows driver, you get zero benefits, might as well have on board graphics. Gotta have MFR drivers loading or the card is useless. Even scrolling in Internet Explorer you see delay.

I read a post from a smart guy a while back who attributed the issue to an architecture change nVidia implemented starting with the 7900 series. He speculated it's been a spotty issue with each series and driverset since. I wish I could find the post..

You know that I meant the default monitor/LCD drivers, not the NVidia Graphics drivers, correct...?

Why don't you just try it...?

There is a reason why ACER does not provide a specific LCD driver for the X221W, and I've read posts here about problems with monitor-specific drivers.

"Plug-and-play" monitor should be used in most of the cases, IMO. The NForce drivers still recognize all monitors properly in my case.

Using the VGA cable instead worked like a charm, thanks guys! Are there any 3rd party drivers or hacks to get around this though?
