Well, just got home from work not too long ago with my copy of Doom 3, and I was pretty excited to get going on it. But, I've run into problems that are serious enough to keep me from playing. Here goes.
First up, my system specs:
Athlon64 3200+ @ 2.47GHz
GeForce 6800 128MB @ 380/810 w/61.77 drivers
1GB PC3200 Buffalo RAM
ABIT KV8-Max3
My system should be more than enough to run Doom 3. Well, right now it's telling me that it isn't basically. I installed the game fine, and everything was working good. I ran the game, got the intro id movie, and got to the main menu. The first thing I do is change my video options. I was defaulted at medium quality setting and a 640x480 res. I notched these up to high quality and 1024x768 to start out with, and also turned v-sync on for the hell of it.
I went through the opening movie, and when the camera pans out from the computer screen to show the lovely graphics for the first time, it turns into a slide show! I'm talking a frame a second people. If I hit escape and go straight to where I have control of the marine, it's still a slide show and completely unplayable.
So I took some precauntionary steps, and here's how each turned out:
1.) First thing I did was restart the comp, then try again. Same slide show results.
2.) I then checked my drivers, and ensured that AA and AF were set to program defaults. I also set my clocks back to default, as Carmack had said oc'ed cards would suffer. Everything else in the drivers were at defaults. Same slide show results.
3.) I then tried rolling back my drivers. I was using v61.77, so I uninstalled those and went to the v61.76. Same slide show results.
4.) I then went into the game, and set my quality back to medium (the recommended for my 128MB 6800), and also turned v-sync off, trying to un-do whatever changes I had made in the beginning. Restarted to have changes take effect. Same slide show result.
5.) I then tried changing the seta image_cacheMegs from my defaulted 20 to 128. Same slide show result.
Can anyone help me out at all? I'm thinking about rolling back to the v61.72 forceware's, and also maybe even updating/downgrading my VIA 4-in-1's. Thanks for any tips or anything people can provide.
