I live in the country and we are finally getting fiber to the house after many years of only 3g data. My problem is this; I have a man cave about 200 feet from house that my wife demands the computer be in. This computer I want to run much of our games (streaming over Nvidia Shield or TV, etc). The fiber needs to come into the house though, which is were we spend most of our Internet time. I want to be able to stream video and video game from the man cave (200) feet away to the house on the same network. I can do ethernet underground or wireless. Since I am gaming I don't want to lose any NOTICABLE lag. I do have a limited budget but that is not outrageously low. I also have limited knowledge of products so please include item name and specifics cause I will probably be purchasing the item and want to get the right thing.

EDIT: I do not mind ethernet cable solution due to its permanent structure to the man cave. But if there IS a better wireless solution I am game.

Thank you in advance
Chad

Trench, conduit, gel filled cable, two runs for redundancy.

Can you please explain a bit better? I understand Trench and conduit of course, but Gel and "Two Runs"? Two runs of what kind of wire? and where do I get gel filled wire? DO I need a booster from the router in house?

Use Ethernet and install RJ45 Surge Protector Lightning Arrester at the entries to the two houses.

There is many type of Arrestors the specific should be determine according to your specific Trerrain.

Wow, thanks a ton. I forgot about that.

Definitely run conduit. If you do run cat6, use lightning protection but my vote would be multi mode fiber. I prefer fiber for any cabling that leaves a building.

What you would want to do is run the fiber into a Fiber to Ethernet converter on each end of the Fiber run.

Something like this would probably be ok:

If you go with something like this, read the manual and buy compatible Fiber. There's different kinds.

So how do you terminate the fiber with a connector and what kind of fiber do you need for that convertor?

Just noticed that particular convertor has less than stellar reviews.

Here it is cheaper. http://www.ebay.com/itm/StarTech-co...843?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e66c9bc3

Here's one that sold 120 and has 100% feedback. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiber-media...323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a53e000a3

Good, I was using StarTech as an example. As always, research.

I think I found my solution...I purchased the Asus ac68 router and turned it on. Connected my comp and then nvidia shield. Outside in the man cave (200 feet away) I had -45db, the nvidia shield was inside the house next to router; I was able to stream Bioshock infinite with zero lag, even the sound was spot on. So, I will not need to install cabling. In addition, the comp is unable to use the ac protocol on the router so I was on wireless g and I still got the performance. I am purchasing the Asus pce ac68 for the comp so I will be at full 900mbps instead of 300 once I get that. The intel centreno wifi adaptor does not recognize wireless ac. Thanks for the great information and I will answer any questions I can with my experience.
