I have a KT7 Mobo with a Tbird 1.1Ghz. I want to know how to lower cpu temperature as much as possible. I'm not familiar with thermal compound or about any other heatsinkers other than the one it came with. My cpu usually runs about 48C (This is temp from software that came with mobo). I haven't even checked the bios temp yet, but will tonight. Is the software temp usually higher than bios?

Please give any advice on how to lower temp.

Thanks

If you want to lower temp by as much as possible, invest in a good heatsink like an Alpha PAL6035 or FOP32 or 38. Get some arctic silver while you're at it. You can find the stuff at 2CoolTek.

edit: If you really want to lower temp, you can always underclock it. ;)

#1 you can lower your case temp
or
#2 buy a new HS/F
I would suggest either a Taisol CGK742092 or the FOP32-1 for relatively cheap heatsinks that will lower your temp. If you have the cash, you could go for the AlphaPal6035 or the Kanine Hedgehog

I don't mind spending the money for a really good heatsink, but by how much will the new heatsink lower the temp than my current heatsink?

I really don't want to waste money when i can go and buy an extra 256 chip of mem. I love my computer and want to do the best for it (My baby).

P.S. I sense a little jealousy from my girl. Ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh.

If you decide not to change the heatsink and fan you can lower the system temp 2-5 degrees just by simlpy scraping of that crap that came on the heatsink and replacing it with some heat sink compound (or some artic silver if you prefer). I have an Abit KTT7 with a t-bird 750 running at 1000 with the standard heatsink and fan, and it's running rock soild with a system temp around 37-40

HM, I just purchased a Alpha HS/Fan kit that comes with thermal compound. I've never used thermal compound, nor do i know how to apply it. Is there any difference between the one that it comes with and artic silver? It doesn't state what compound the kit comes with.
